The festival hosted 4.500 people during tour days of screenings and various activities in Barcelona and Terrassa.
Barcelona, 4 february 2008.- The International documentary Film Festival DocsBarcelona ended last Sunday with the screening of the award-wining “A promise to the dead: The exile journey of Ariel Dorfman”, by Peter Raymont. During the tour days of the Festival, about 4.500 people have participated in the activities programmed by DocsBarcelona in Barcelona and Terrassa.
According to Joan González, director of the Festival DocsBarcelona 2008 was a turning point in the history of the festival, being the best edition so far. “The Pitching Forum - encounter of professionals to promote documentary projects – is an established activity with more than 400 participants from 20 countries, and, even though being in an initial stage, the Festival has had good repercussions”, stated González.
Developed into a festival in 2007, DocsBarcelona has been until then an encounter of professionals in the field, i.e. directors, producers and financers. Actually the event has more activities, such as the screening of the best films in three different sections (Historia, Panorama and Le Dernier Repas) with colloquia with the directors and Master Classes held by top-notch professionals.
According to Joan González, “this is a festival that still has to grow on the long run”. Concretely, DocsBarcelona aims to enhance its city network where it is celebrated similarly. This year, Terrassa has hosted the Pitching Forum and has screened 12 films, with an official inauguration with the film “Bucarest”, by Albert Solé. In Terrassa, 500 people enjoyed these activities.
Amongst the most successful films where “Black Harvest”, by Bob Connolly and Robin Anderson, “Portraits”, by Alain Cavalier and “Diario de guerra de un payaso”, by Mikio Tsunekawa, the alter being viewed also by pupils of three schools in Barcelona during morning sessions of the section “12-16”. The section with the most spectators was Historia, programmed by Montserrat Armengou, more specifically “El Honor de las Injúrias”, by Carlos García Alix, and “Madres”, de Eduardo Walger.
The organisation World like to stress the success of Master Classes programmed for the festival. The Master class giving by Alain Cavalier and Thierry Garrel gathered 200 people, and Carles Bosch’s and Tono Folguera’s one gathered almost 100.
The Festival was born 11 years ago as a Pitching Forum, a meeting space between documentary filmmakers and financial supporters to enable new documentary projects to be carried out.
DocsBarcelona wishes to thank the ICIC, the Department of Culture and Media of the Generalitat de Catalunya; the MEDIA Programme of the European Union, and the cities of Terrassa and Barcelona for their economic support.
