La maleta d’en Michel is filmmaker Clara Farràs’ personal exploration of the owner of a suitcase that some friends found in an inhabited house in Barcelona. A valise that contains a treasure: the mementos and the memory of its owner. Fascinated with this character, a famous variety composer, harpist and artist of the 1940s, Clara searches for documents, music and people who might have known him. Her aim is to recreate his life and his career, from his bourgeois childhood in Switzerland to his decline as an artist and as a person. This documentary is the story of Michel’s life, based on the few odd mementos that he kept in a suitcase. It is also the story of Clara’s quest to give a face, a name and a voice to the collection of memories, hopes and dreams that were locked up inside of that bag.
