Side Walk
Duki Dror
Israel 2007 57'
Every morning schoolchildren make their way from home to school. Walking, riding, or running, they leave behind their parents their dreams and dreads of the night before. They walk alone, or with a friend, trying to avoid the neighborhood bully, escorting a reluctant sibling to kindergarten. And at the end of school day, they’re on the way back home. Side Walk interweaves seven parallel stories of children on the way to school and back. In this independent and unprotected twilight zone we witness the most intimate moments where a child’s sense of independence is developed. A meditation on child consciousness, a rite of passage that goes in a blink of an eye to dissolve into adulthood. The playful, the cruel, the magical and the thrilling moments of this daily journey, become a lucid voyage of an enlightening experience.
