The DocsBarcelona International Documentary Film Festival celebrates its 21st edition from May 16th to 27th, offering a selection of the best documentary films on the international scene.

DocsBarcelona 2018 has unveiled all the titles that will be part of the 21st edition of the festival, with a selection 41 films, stands out the extraordinary presence of Catalan productions, many of which will have their world premiere at the festival screens. The opening and closing sessions, with Petitet and Sinfonía respectively, as well as the films Eugenio, Shootball, Hayati (My Life) or Time Thieves, among others, highlight the richness and quality of proposals of Catalan documentary films at DocsBarcelona 2018, which will be held from May 16th to 27th. This year’s edition also stands out for its richness and the heterogeneous genres and tones of all films, which range from the comedy of reality, with works such as See you tomorrow, God willing!, La flor de la vida or Robar a Rodin, to the crudest portraits of current issues, such as Of Fathers and Sons, The Cleaners or Voces de Guerrilla.
Thanks to the commitment of the documentalists, the festival will approach conflicts in Colombia, Syria, Ukraine or Congo. With a critical, reflective and courageous spirit, directors of films like The Congo Tribunal, Namrud, The Distant Barking of Dogs, Treblinka or Experimento Stuka make us reflect on the refugee crisis, contemporary society, freedom of expression and historical memory, becoming brave witnesses of our times.
In addition, the DOC-U Section will offer us the best of the university documentary talent of Catalonia. The program is completed with outstanding titles by women directors, which this year represent 40% of the festival. All of them explore exceptional female characters, protagonists, fighters, activists, eccentric, authentic and unique as Silvana, Miss Kiet’s Children, Over the Limit, See you tomorrow, God willing! and Ouaga Girls. The art will also be present with the surprising story, halfway between the irony and the detective tale proposed by Robar a Rodin and Mies en Scene. Barcelona in two acts, that reveals the secrets of the Barcelona Pavilion, the masterpiece of contemporary architecture by Mies van der Rohe.
El DocsBarcelona expands in territory
The festival will have more screens this year in the territory than ever. Thanks to the collaboration of the Diputació de Barcelona, three films of this year’s selection, El Espanto, Time Thieves and Wonderful Losers. A Different World will travel to the municipalities of Badalona, Berga, Castellar del Vallès, Gavà, Granollers, La Garriga, Mataró, Manresa, Sant Andreu de la Barca and Vilafranca del Penedès. The programme of DocsBarcelona 2018 is complemented by the Industry activities, which bring together more than 400 professionals, workshops, conferences and the traditional Master Class 7 Plans 7, which this year will teach Talal Derki, director Of Fathers and Sons and Return to Homs.
