Open Call Development Workshop

Addressed to all directors and producers with a documentary project in development.


The participants will work on the projects individually with the tutor to pick up the weaknesses and strengths of each project to be able to develop a good documentary film. The consultancy will be done in group so that everyone can enrich from the other projects in addition to mature his own project.


The aim is to provide the methodology and the right tools to be successful in the production and development of international documentaries. You will work on the plot, the storyline and the characters, among other aspects of the script.


This is the first edition of the workshop at DocsBarcelona Valparaíso. This workshop has been given at several festivals and professional meetings: Encuentros de Cartagena (Cartagena de Indias, Colombia), DocMontevideo (Uruguai), DocsBarcelona + Medellín (Colombia),Surdocs (Chile), among others.



Monday November 28th (10:00 am – 18:30 pm) and Tuesday Novermber 29th (9:00 am – 14:00 pm) at Casa Plan, Brasil 1490, Valparaíso


ATTENTION: Submissions open until October 20th or until places are booked out. You can submit 2 people per project, the fee is per project. The projects will go through a selection process. The workshop will be given in Spanish.

Joan Gonzàlez

Director of DocsBarcelona and DocsBarcelona Valparaíso. Executive producer, filmmaker and editor.

He has produced more than 150 documentary films, some of them have been awarded at the Berlinale, selected at Festivals like INPUT or Sundance. Joan Gonzàlez was given the European EDN Award in 2013 for his contribution to the development of the documentary culture in the South of Europe.


The cost to participate at the Development Workshop is per project: $80.000 CLP tax included. By each selected project may attend two participants.

To attend as an observer the cost is $50.000 tax included.


The fee includes:

  • The working sessions with the tutor.
  • Coffee breaks during the sesions
  • Access to Opening and Closing ceremonies (RSVP needed).
  • Access to Master Classes.
